All the flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak packed into a crispy loaf of bread with tender beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and plenty of melty cheese.
Ingredients
* 1 large French bread loaf or Italian bread
* 1 pound thinly sliced steak
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 small onion, thinly sliced
* 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
* 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
* ½ teaspoon garlic powder
* Salt and black pepper, to taste
* 1½ cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
* ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
* 2 tablespoons butter, melted
* 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, optional
Instructions
1. **Prepare the bread:**
Preheat your oven to **375°F**. Slice the loaf lengthwise and carefully hollow out some of the center, leaving enough bread around the edges to hold the filling.
2. **Cook the vegetables:**
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook for 5–7 minutes, until softened and lightly browned.
3. **Add the steak:**
Add the thinly sliced steak and garlic to the skillet. Season with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through.
4. **Boost the flavor:**
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and cook for another minute, allowing the flavors to come together.
5. **Make it cheesy:**
Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in about half of the shredded cheese.
6. **Stuff the bread:**
Spoon the cheesesteak mixture generously into the hollowed-out loaf. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.
7. **Bake:**
Brush the edges of the bread with melted butter. Place on a baking sheet and bake for **12–15 minutes**, or until the bread is crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. **Slice and serve:**
Sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired. Let it cool for a couple of minutes, then slice into thick pieces and serve hot.
**Tip:** For an extra-crispy top, switch the oven to broil for the final 1–2 minutes—but watch it closely! 🥖🧀🥩
