Delicious Classic Vanilla

Eggnog often evokes memories of childhood foods. When we began exploring similar dishes, we realized that eggnog closely resembles the essence of vanilla desserts that people enjoy—whatever they’re called—because vanilla is always a key element

ngredients:

1 (16 oz.) package store-bought puff pastry, 2 sheets, chilled

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

1/2 cup water

2/3 cup granulated or superfine sugar

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, cubed

6 egg yolks, beaten

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Powdered sugar, as needed

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish by lining it with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on the sides.

2. Prepare Puff Pastry:

Roll out the puff pastry sheets and place them on the lined baking trays. Use a fork to gently pierce the surface without creating holes all the way through.

Optional: Place a sheet of parchment paper over each puff pastry and top with another baking sheet to prevent the pastry from puffing too much.

3. Bake: Bake for 20–22 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.

Optional: Use a rolling pin to trim the puff pastry edges to fit the 9×13-inch baking dish.

4. Make Vanilla Cream: In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream, butter, sugar, and vanilla. Heat over medium heat until small bubbles appear around the edges of the pan.

5. Thicken Mixture: Mix the flour with water to form a smooth paste. Stir this into the hot milk mixture, then remove the pan from heat. Return it to the stove and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens (about 30–60 seconds).

6. Layer and Chill: Pour the vanilla cream over the baked puff pastry layers in the prepared baking dish. Refrigerate for 3–4 hours, or until fully set.

7. Serve: Sprinkle powdered sugar over the top before serving.

Enjoy this delightful vanilla dessert!
