Ingredients:
Ingredient Quantity
Lean ground beef 2 lbs
Breadcrumbs ½ cup
Milk ¼ cup
Onion soup mix 1 (1 oz) packet
Dried thyme ½ teaspoon
All-purpose flour ¼ cup
Extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons
White onion, sliced 1
Condensed cream of chicken soup 2 (10 oz each) cans
Water ¾ cup
Au jus mix 1 (1 oz) packet
Instructions:
Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the 2 lbs lean ground beef, ½ cup breadcrumbs, ¼ cup milk, 1 (1 oz) packet onion soup mix, and ½ teaspoon dried thyme. Mix all ingredients together until they are well combined, then shape the mixture into 8 uniform patties.
Prep Slow Cooker & Brown Patties: Arrange the 1 sliced white onion in the bottom of your slow cooker. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil. Lightly dredge each patty in the ¼ cup all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess. Brown the floured patties on both sides in the hot skillet. The patties do not need to be cooked through, just nicely browned.
Assemble & Cook: Place the browned beef patties on top of the sliced onions in the slow cooker, stacking them alternately. In a separate bowl, stir together the 2 (10 oz) cans condensed cream of chicken soup, ¾ cup water, and the 1 (1 oz) packet au jus mix until smooth. Pour this gravy mixture over the beef patties. Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours, or until the beef is cooked through and the patties are tender.
Serve this Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak with mashed potatoes or egg noodles to soak up all that delicious gravy!
