Crochet Christmas Star Spiral Ornament

Materials

  • Red yarn
  • Dark green yarn
  • Cream/white yarn
  • Yellow/gold yarn

Spiral Base

With red, green, or cream yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc around (12)

Continue working sc around without increasing until the strip/tube reaches approximately 40–50 cm.

Stuff lightly as you crochet. Shape the finished piece into a loose Christmas-tree spiral and secure the curves with a few discreet stitches.

For a striped version, change colors between sections using red, green, and cream yarn.

Christmas Star

With yellow/gold yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: sc around (12)

Continue working evenly until you have a small rounded center.

Form six points around the outside by working short groups of stitches and decreasing toward each point.

For each point:

Row 1: 4 sc (4)
Row 2: dec, 2 sc (3)
Row 3: dec, 1 sc (2)
Row 4: dec (1)

FO after completing each point.

Make a second star if you want a thicker decoration. Place the two stars together and sew around the edges.

Snowflake Detail

With white yarn:

Ch 4 and sl st into the center of the star.

Create small chains around the center to form six snowflake arms. Add tiny branch stitches to each arm.

Secure the yarn at the back and weave in the end.

Small Spiral Decorations

With green, red, or cream yarn:

Repeat on the opposite side of the chain to create a pointed leaf.

FO and sew the leaf near the bottom bell.

Make 2–4 leaves.

Holly Berries

With red yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: sc around (6)

FO, lightly stuff, and close.

Make 3 small berries and sew them together between the green leaves.

Christmas Bell

With cream yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) × 6 (18)
Rnd 4–6: sc around (18)
Rnd 7: (sc, dec) × 6 (12)
Rnd 8: dec around (6)

FO and close.

Add green holly leaves and red berries to the front.

Attach a small gold bell underneath.

Hanging Loop

With the matching yarn:

Ch 20–25.

Sl st back into the starting point.

Work several sc along the chain to reinforce the loop.

Attach the loop securely to the top of the star.

Assembly

Attach the large star to the top of the spiral. Sew the small spiral sections at different levels along the main spiral.

Attach the decorated cream bell to the bottom.

Add small gold bells and beads between the sections.

Add the holly leaves and red berries near the bottom decoration.

Make sure the decorations are distributed evenly so the spiral hangs straight.

Weave in all loose ends and gently shape the entire ornament before hanging.
