Crochet Pattern — Cascading Floral Hair Clip

Materials
- Fine cream or ivory cotton crochet thread
- Small crochet hook suitable for your thread
- Metal snap hair clip/barrette
- Small pearl beads
- Tapestry needle
- Sewing needle and matching thread
- Scissors
- Fabric glue, optional
Abbreviations

- ch = Chain
- sc = Single Crochet
- hdc = Half Double Crochet
- dc = Double Crochet
- sl st = Slip Stitch
- inc = 2 stitches in the same stitch

4. Large Center Flower
Work in cream thread.
Rnd 1: MR, 8 sc. (8)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (16)
Rnd 3: sl st in next stitch, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st in same stitch around to create the first layer of petals.
FO and weave in the end.
For the second petal layer, join cream thread behind the first layer.
Rnd 4: sl st behind next petal, ch 4, 3 dc, ch 4, sl st in same space around.
FO.
For a more layered appearance, make a third smaller flower:
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc. (6)
Rnd 2: ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st in each stitch around.
FO.
Stack the three flower layers together.
5. Pearl Center
Place one larger pearl in the center and surround it with 5–6 smaller pearl beads.
Sew the pearls securely through the center of the flower.
Make sure all beads are firmly attached before using the accessory.
6. Small Leaves
Make approximately 12–20 leaves in cream thread.
Row 1: ch 6.
Row 2: Starting in the second chain from the hook, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc.
Work 2 sc into the final chain to form the tip.
Continue along the opposite side of the chain with sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc.

Shape the leaf gently with your fingers.
Make different sizes by changing the starting chain between 5 and 8 stitches.
7. Tiny Crochet Flowers
Make approximately 5–8 small flowers.
Rnd 1: MR, 5 sc. (5)
Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in next stitch around to create small petals.

Add a tiny pearl or small stitched center if desired.
8. Cascading Vines
Make several long crochet chains.
For the longest vine:
Row 1: ch 35–45.
Row 2: sl st back along the chain.

For medium vines:
Make 4–6 chains approximately 20–30 stitches long.
For shorter vines:
Make 4–6 chains approximately 10–18 stitches long.
Varying the lengths creates the natural cascading effect seen in the reference.
9. Attaching Leaves to the Vines
Place the leaves at different points along each chain.
Sew the leaves securely to the chain, alternating their direction so some point left and others point right.
Add a few small flowers between the leaves.
Leave some sections of the chains visible for a delicate trailing appearance.
10. Hair Clip Base
Take the metal barrette and place the large crochet flower near the top.
Sew the flower firmly onto the barrette using matching thread.
Attach the upper ends of the cascading vines underneath the flower.
Distribute the vines across the length of the clip so they hang naturally.
11. Final Assembly
- Complete the large layered flower.
- Add the pearl center.
- Make the small leaves and flowers.
- Crochet the vines in different lengths.
- Arrange the leaves and flowers along the vines.
- Sew the vines securely beneath the main flower.
- Attach the complete crochet decoration to the metal hair clip.
- Check that the clip opens and closes freely.
- Secure every loose thread at the back.
- Gently shape the petals and leaves.
Finishing
Weave in all loose ends and carefully trim excess thread. Gently arrange the cascading vines so they fall naturally. If desired, lightly block the flower and leaves to improve their shape. Allow the piece to dry completely before attaching it to the hair.
